But like most local bands, we decided that in order to get our name out there, we would have to expand our audience so we, “Minus the Richards,” decided to go ahead and play at the show along with “Nightmare Canvas,” “Stepping Stone,” “Me after You” and “Scott Jones and Co.” One of the motorcycle clubs that were at the center of the controversy are the Cossacks, whom unfortunately also lost several club members as a result of the shootout, so you might imagine the concern my bandmates and I had when we were invited to play at a benefit show which was being hosted by the Crane County chapter of the Cossacks. Many folks insisted that these clubs were nothing more than highly organized crime rings with fancy names. In May of last year a shootout took place in Waco involving members from several motorcycle clubs and police, which sparked online debates about the very nature of the clubs. We, the general public, often form an opinion about bikers based on what we see on television shows and movies and more recently, what we have seen on the news. When motorcycle clubs are portrayed in the media it is quite common for them to be shown in a negative light.
